Pre-marital Counseling

You found your best friend and you’re ready to build your lives together! Maybe you two are the smart ones and want to have a solid foundation to support your next step, or you’ve seen the mistakes your parents or friends have made and don’t want to duplicate them! Either way, a few sessions before the big day can support you through one of the biggest transitions of your life.

To start, we’ll map out the strengths and challenges of your specific relationship and then explore potentially heavy topics that can be difficult to sort through on your own. Some common themes that come up:

  • Finances (who pays for what, joint account or no?)
  • Sex/Intimacy/Romance (it’s great now, but what happens when you’re stressed or busy?)
  • Shared Responsibilities (what are your roles, how will you divide the chores?)
  • Family Planning (1 kid or 5? Parenting styles?)
  • Conflict Resolution (finally working through that thing that keeps coming up or just getting the tools to handle conflict in a healthy way when it does happen.)

This can also be a good format for commitment transitioning to cohabitation. Yeah, you might already spend most of your time together, but things do shift when you share space – ALL the time.

Pre-marital support helps you and your partner feel fortified as a team while proactively planning your future. And it establishes open communication lines for revisiting these topics as needed, while providing structure for effectively navigating any challenge you encounter together.
